The shadows she observed in the grass inspired her to spend months developing the technique that, however, did not paint the chosen object on canvas. The object becomes a representation that is its own and the canvas carries its own interpretation painted by the object, especially when it is a living item or something perishable, for example, fruit or humans. Alexa's style of painting is ephemeral, the only thing remaining of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Techniques of photography and painting are closely coordinated and result in a flat, two-dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. The only parts of the image like hair and eyes, reveal the three-dimensional dimension. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painted model into the environment around her and allows her to work within their own world. The boundaries between performance, photography, installation and painting can be dissolved.
